What is a Proxy Site?
In the case of this proxy site it is a bit of software that servers as an intermediary between your PC and its browser and the site you wish to see. In other words a web proxies allows you to search the world wide web anonymously by getting around filters or simply for security. Specifically how it works is around your IP. Your IP is basically address and filters can tell where that IP resides and filters or not based on that information. A proxy hides your IP and swaps it for one that is not being filtered. Notice we have quite a few ads on this website as we have to cover our costs like the server, software and bandwidth. However we do not use popup ads on the inside page. We made that decision as feedback suggested that was the most annoying sort of advertising.
Why are Certain Sites Filtered?
There are lots of reasons why proxy servers are needed and many organisations that do that filtering. Firstly there are governments like the Chinese or the Iranians who wish to control their populations for political reasons. Then there are businesses for legal and stopping timewasting reasons. Also there are schools and colleges who wish to protect their students from the horrors (lol) of the likes of Facebook and other social media sites.
Legal Basis of Proxy Sites
Proxy sites are completely legal. Freedom of speach is protected under the United States Constitution and indeed in Article 12 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Independence. Naturally what would be illegal is using the proxy for a crime which is of course banned from this site and you must not use it for that purpose. Using a proxy for privacy, freedom of speech reasons are good example of their correct use.
